2-Ethylhexyl acetate is a clear, low-volatility, mobile liquid with a characteristic ester odour. It is miscible with all common solvents,e.g. alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, ethers, glycols, glycol ethers, and aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons. Its miscibility with water, however, is limited.
2-Ethylhexyl acetate is a solvent for nitrocellulose and other resins commonly used in some lacquers, NC lacquer emulsions, screen inks and some enamels to improve flow and film formation. It has a wide use as a leather industry solvent in dyeing and finishing functions aiding in film formation and flow. Literature reports it use in fragrance formulations. its compatibility with all common solvents such as alcohols, ketones, glycols and glycol ethers, and aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons it is often used as an additive in cleaners and even in paint stripping systems.
